John F. Horvath, Ph.D. is is Of Counsel at Brake Hughes Bellermann LLP. Dr. Horvath's practice emphasizes preparation and prosecution of patent applications, patent portfolio analysis, preparation of opinions regarding the infringement and validity of patents, ex-parte and inter-partes reexamination proceedings, and general client counseling on intellectual property matters. Dr. Horvath's areas of expertise include computer hardware and software, electronics and instrumentation, optics and lasers, telecommunications and networking, broadband and wireless communications, semiconductor devices, processes and manufacturing equipment, MEMS (micro-electromechanical systems) and physics. Prior to joining Brake Hughes Bellermann LLP, Dr. Horvath was an associate and Of Counsel at Fish & Richardson PC, where he drafted and prosecuted patent applications, performed due diligence analysis of patent portfolios, including pre-suit investigations and the preparation of non-infringement and invalidity opinions, and litigated patent infringement cases before U.S. District Courts in California, Delaware, Arizona, and Texas. The various subject matters involved included VCO and PLL design; LOCOS, CVD and PVD semiconductor processing; DOCSIS (cable networking); helium leak detection; turbomolecular pump design; cryptography; network intrusion detection; DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 memory controllers; neural network design; image processing; optical character recognition; wireless and satellite communications; color management; image compression (MPEG, JPEG, GIF); computer networking and routing; MEMS-based mirror design; High Tc superconductivity; digital filter design; laser diode current controllers; flash memory controllers; ultra pure precision cleaning and drying; liquid chromatography / mass spectrometry; and power MOSFET design.
